Our Lotería.

Lotería is a popular game amongst many Hispanic communities, but isn't the most inclusive. It doesn't include positive representations of different cultures, identities, minorities, or even more diverse and inclusive items, but we have changed that.

We created a Lotería that is not only inclusive of all people but also has replaced specific images that are offensive. For example, instead of “the drunk” (originally in Spanish “El Borracho”), there are things like the postman.

This Lotería is specifically Oregonian. Some of the images in the game include the Oregon flag, Mt. Hood, Bigfoot, the Oregon hat, and other things make Oregon, Oregon.

We have also included cards such as the corn, the squirrel, the farmworker, the mermaid (she now has tattoos), the LGBTQ+ community, the world (which has the hand of a man and a woman), and so much more.

We want to share this version of Lotería all around Oregon. This version of the game not only helps create a more inclusive game for families to share, but is a learning tool that helps share Hispanic culture and help people learn new languages.

We have two published versions as of August 2024; Lotería Oregoniana and Lotería de Dia de Los Muertos with others in the works.
